In Norse mythology, Nithhogg (or Nidhögg) is a dragon that lives at Yggdrasil's roots next to the river Vergelmer and gnaws on its roots. When the reign of the Aesir has been overthrown, a kingdom is created again where Balder and Höder will rule. But when this kingdom has grown, the Nithhogg will be seen in the distance, and that he carries corpses in his feathers. Nidhögg sweeps across the plain and it is clear that even this new world will perish and that the children of the gods will meet their own Ragnarök.
